What is Optimal Retirement Living?
The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines retirement as “the action or fact of leaving one’s job and ceasing to work”. Though the thought of ceasing to work might excite you, this limited definition does not conjure up an exciting, full vision of what retirement can be. In my opinion, “Optimal Retirement Living” should be a reward for your decades of hard work and sacrifice. It is an opportunity to see what you’ve never seen, go where you have never gone, learn what you have never learned and be what you have never been…to be free to chart the rest of your life as you see fit.
Assuming you are in reasonable health, retirement should pose limitless possibilities for you. Even with minor health issues, the possibilities are numerous. It is not the end of life, but perhaps an end to one phase of life. It is a chance to remake one’s self, to explore and make new discoveries. Even on a limited budget, retirement can be exciting, fulfilling and full of adventure.
The intent of this website and my business, “Optimal Retirement Living”, is to help you explore and chart that path for the next phase of your life. You will find this website gives you information and food for thought in many facets of your retirement. It is my hope that the optimal retirement life that you create is fulfilling, exciting and a just reward for your years of being responsible and providing for not only yourself, but your family or relevant loved ones.
Towards the end of the article, I recommend you check out two other of my related posts. These do a good job of providing a more thorough, rich idea of what optimal retirement living looks like. As an example, when many think of “good health”, they typically think of physical health. However, that is only one third of the health “puzzle”. Mental and spiritual health are also important, as I discuss in A Life in Balance. One without the other(s) causes a life out of balance and not in harmony. I know this sounds esoteric, but as you continue to read more on my website, you will find it is rather simple as long as you stick to the basics.
At the end of this post is a summary list of what I consider to be the most important facets of a happy, healthy retirement. As this is my first business and first website, I will continue to add content and build out this list. You may find yourself adding to the list as well, and if so, I ask that you share those discoveries with others on this website or other venues as you so choose. . In this instance, a treasure found is a treasure to be shared.
If you haven’t already, I encourage you to view the About Mike page as it explains the history and motivation behind my establishment of this business.
