Retirement News Articles – Bonus Story
For those of you who remember the cartoon series “The Jetsons”, that space world is becoming more and more of a reality, right here on earth. According to the story below, air taxis could be as little as one year away.

Travel for Seniors
Younger travelers are taking big, expensive trips — but they don’t want to plan them. This has brought about the resurgence of travel agencies. Article one tells the story and makes a good case for using a travel agent, especially if you are worn out…which is the reason to get away to begin with.
Article two describes the Strasburg Train, which takes riders through Pennsylvania Dutch Country. The Strasburg Train holds the distinction of being the oldest continuously operating rail line in the US, having begun service in 1832. The ride is 45 minutes round trip and is sure to put a smile on your face.

Lifestyle, Health & Welfare for Seniors
The link between diet and dementia has been well-documented, and now researchers at the University of Copenhagen and the U.S. National Institute on Aging have found that eating more pomegranates, strawberries and walnuts might help improve memory among Alzheimer’s patients. Those foods contain a substance called urolithin A, a compound created by gut bacteria. Article one tells us that more research needs to be done, but that the latest findings are promising.

Article two tells us that given that obesity amongst adults more than doubled between 1990 and 2020, nearly half the world will be obese by 2035. This trend is nearly world-wide, but there are still differences in the rates from country to country, with a few having a low rate of increase. One country stands out for its decline in obesity during this period. To learn more, be sure to read the article below.

Food, Nutrition & Cooking
The author of article one shares that they are sitting with Frankie Olivieri Jr. outside Pat’s King of Steaks, a renowned South Philadelphia restaurant that serves the city’s famous cheesesteak 24/7. It’s 10 a.m., a quiet time between the night shift workers and the afternoon tourist rush. The cheesesteak, nearly identical to the original from 1930, consists of an Italian hoagie roll filled with thinly sliced rib eye and Spanish onions, sautéed on a flat-top grill, sometimes with added peppers and mushrooms. Cheese, whether provolone or the iconic Cheez Whiz, binds it all together. It is a local cultural favorite with an interesting history.
Article two, from EatingWell, is simply a recipe, but a great one at that. It is delicious and takes less than an hour to make…a guaranteed crowd pleaser.

Acadia National Park includes 150 miles of hiking trails. Evidently, as article one shares, some of these are not for the faint of heart.
Though pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the US, Padel is the fastest growing paddle sport in the world. Article two explains that padel is a blend of tennis and squash that involves lots of strategic, fast-paced play. “Padel is typically played in doubles on an enclosed court that’s roughly 25% smaller than a tennis court,” an interviewee says, and balls can be played off the court’s walls in a similar way to squash.

Article two, from Love Exploring, gives you a quick slideshow of the best budget friendly museums in the US. The list contains everything from large, mainstream, big city museums to a few hidden gems.

My great-great grandfather actually settled in Colorado in 1860, having traveled across the country from his ancestral home in Maine. I have always wanted to visit Maine and learn more about my family history. Though a vacation home is not part of that interest, it may be for you. Be prepared, the pricing cited in article one is higher than I expected, but I guess it should not be a surprise, given it is in New England.
As Kiplinger shares in article two, in times of economic uncertainty or downturn, consumer staples are a safe bet to include in your investment portfolio. Other than being able to withstand negative headwinds, the article gives you additional reasons to consider including these stocks in your investment strategy.
