Retirement News Articles – Bonus Story
Given it is an election year, I thought it appropriate to include this article, which takes a look at how voting in the US has changed over the years.

Travel for Seniors
If you have been following me for a while, you know I like travel, cooking and eating. In article one, I share two of the three. The article, from The Culinary Travel Guide, gives you a list of great places to eat in Paris.
Article two, from Conde Nast, gives me another opportunity to tell you “where to go”. Trust me, I am not angry with you. Here, we get to read about East Coast gems for the summer getaway. As the article states…this is the just reward for enduring those long, cold East Coast winters.

Lifestyle, Health & Welfare for Seniors
Florida has long been a desired retirement destination. However, as article one states, housing costs have skyrocketed and home insurance rates have followed right behind. This article provides alternatives that might appeal to both you and your pocketbook.
Article two, from Rolling Stone, highlights the benefits of a music App called Vera. Founded in 2020, Vera is designed to assist dementia and Alzheimer’s patients with music. Patients or their caregivers can enter key biographical data, such as where and when the listener was born, and the app will provide a customized plan.

Food, Nutrition & Cooking
My father, who was diabetic, always seasoned his food with black pepper, not salt. Article one tells us why this is a good strategy, as black pepper has a number of health benefits.
A study cited in article two informs us that even just a 10% increase in ultra-processed foods in our diet can add considerable risk for cognitive decline, dementia and strokes.

Recreation, Exercise & Hobbies
It’s June, and it is time to think about getting outside for some fresh air, exercise and sight-seeing. I can’t think of a better way to do it than on a bicycle.
Article one, from BikeRide, is in my mind a great place to start if you are in the market for a new bike. However, I find the organization of the article odd. The article begins with the list of 131 bikes, with links to reviews…and THEN proceeds to tell you about the different kind of bicycles you might consider and what to ponder if you are shopping for a bicycle. Be sure to scroll past the list to read the meat of the article, which is very helpful.
Article two, from Electric Bike Report, takes the search for a new bicycle up a notch. Have you considered an electric bike? Though an entry level ebike is more expensive than an entry level “normal” bike, the quality of entry level ebikes are quite good. Ebikes add an interesting dimension to biking, allowing many to extend their range as well as improve the experience to make it more enjoyable. If you haven’t ridden in a while and don’t consider yourself to be a class A athlete, this might be something to consider.

Arts, Entertainment, and Reading
Article one, from Travel & Leisure, gives a list of the best museums for with an eclectic mix of art, history, science, culture and more. No matter your preference, there is sure to be one or two here you can add to your must-see list. Having lived in Washington DC for 4 years, I was glad to see it made the list as several museums there are free:
Free museums in Washington D.C.
- National Museum of African American History and Culture
- National Museum of American History
- White House
- National Museum of Natural History
- United States Holocaust Memorial Museum
- National Gallery of Art
- Smithsonian Institution Building
- House of the Temple
Article two, from Literary Hub, gives you a list of literary film and TV coming to streaming services in the month of June. I will have to do some checking to see if they do this every month!
