Retirement News Articles – Bonus Story

For most of us, “independence” is still a mainstay of the American ideal. If you are one of those, this article will be of interest, as it delves into the results of a study from personal finance company WalletHub. The firm’s researchers ranked each state on a series of factors falling into five categories: Financial Dependency, Government Dependency, Job-Market Dependency, International-Trade Dependency, and Vice Dependency. What is presented is not an article, but a short slide show.

Article one, from Conde Nast, is a result of their 36th annual Readers’ Choice Awards survey, which called on their readers to rank the friendliest cities in the world—from Mexico to Southeast Asia. The article reveals the results of that survey, the 12 global cities deemed the friendliest in the world and therefore, great places to travel.

According to Conde Nast, Evora is one of the most interesting places in Portugal. Located in the Douro Valley and wine country, has beautiful architecture, interesting local history and splendid cuisine. If you are planning to travel to Portugal, this would be a welcome destination.

Before reading article one, I had no idea what Tuscan bistecca alla Fiorentina was. Evidently, it is a bone-in steak of Tuscany, Italy. Interestingly, most regions of Italy don’t often serve beef, and rarely as a cut of steak. The author tells us how she prepares the signature steak, which is actually quite simple.

There are only five ‘Blue Zones’ in the world – places where people live for over 100 years, which is attribute to their healthy diets and care free lifestyles. These are Ikaria in Greece, Okinawa in Japan, the Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica, Loma Linda in California, and the entire province of Ogliastra in Sardinia, Italy.

Article two shares a recipe for minestrone soup, from Sardinia, Italy. It is both healthy and easy to make. And who knows, regular consumption may add years to your life.

Article one, from Popular Science, give you advice on how to attract owls to your landscape. Understandably, these elusive, private raptors won’t just go anywhere. However, if you live in a quiet suburb or rural area with an expanse of grassy area and trees in which to perch, you might be in luck.

If you like hiking and are thinking of retiring in an area that provides ample opportunity to follow that passion, article two is just for you. Other than Marquette, Michigan, the small towns listed are either in the west, New England or the Mid-Atlantic.

However, if you want to be remembered, it’s the finish or closing line that is sure to stay with the reader for a lasting impression. Stylist gives us 100 such examples of powerful literary closing lines in article one.

Most of us know Sharon Stone for her starring role in Basic Instinct. As article two, from the Hollywood Reporter shares, there is much more to this independent, enigmatic woman than the signature movie.
