Living a Happy, Healthy Retirement

Best Retirement News Articles of 2023

Introduction to Best Retirement News Articles of 2023

Whereas many of my retirement articles are not specifically about retirement per se, they typically are about living a happy, healthy lifestyle. Some are the types of articles that you might want to save, while others are more fleeting and intended to entertain or give you food for thought. As I put together these newsletters during 2023, I did find several articles that I thought might be worth revisiting or that perhaps you may have missed.

Bonus Stories

When I first began this newsletter, I hadn’t included this section. However, as I searched for good stories, I often found interesting or entertaining articles that I thought worthy of sharing, even though they might not pertain to Living a Happy, Healthy Retirement. The stories range from the whimsical to the “wow, that is really cool and interesting”. You may have read that having a life-long interest in learning is a key to longevity. That is perhaps my biggest reason for adding these stories.

Lifestyle, Senior Housing and 55+ Communities

A huge part of the quality of life is where you live and the lifestyle you have adopted. Frankly, sometimes where you live can affect the lifestyle you live as well. Hence, the intent of sharing these stories to help you make a very important decision for your retirement future.

Train Travel

If you have been following my weekly newsletter, you know that I am a big fan of trains of any kind (this includes trolleys, subways, etc.). It is a different way to travel and harkens back to a time in the world when things weren’t so rushed. I hope you appreciate these stories even if you are not a fanatic like me.

Travel Destinations

For many, travel is a key component to their retirement “dream”. Travel can of course range from the simple, local day trip to the more exotic international excursions that many of us aspire to. Travel offers many benefits, from a change of pace or environment, to learn about new cultures and making new friends.

Health & Welfare

To experience that “Happy, Healthy Retirement”, maintaining good health is a key determinant. You have therefore likely noticed that a significant portion of my newsletter and website provide advice and recommendations on how to maintain and improve health through nutrition, exercise and staying engaged with loved ones and the community.

Recreation and Hobbies

If you have read “About Mike”, you know that I love the outdoors and recreation. For me, that is a key component of my retirement lifestyle…and of course facilitates staying “young” and healthy. I have tried to encourage my readers to consider trying new, low impact exercise, such as walking, hiking, bike riding, snowshoeing and pickleball. Of course there are a variety of other activities ones can choose, for both the body and the mind.

Food, Nutrition and Cooking

Diet and nutrition are key factors in leading a happy, healthy life. Amazing benefits can be realized from simply following a whole foods diet and reducing sugary, high-fat, processed foods from your diet. These articles range from cornerstone (read the Whole Foods Diet 101) to the more whimsical, such as building a healthier pizza. Be sure to check out the article on Fresh vs. Frozen Vegetables. You might be surprised to find out frozen vegetables are quite healthy!

Arts, Entertainment and Reading

All of us know that physical health is important. However, as I shared in my post “A Life in Balance”, there is more to well-being than just the physical body.

Financial Management for Seniors

Though not a financial planner, I realize that financial health is also a key component to “Living a Happy, Healthy Retirement”. I have striven to share articles that will provide expert advice or bring light to key financial issues that are important to the financial health of retirees.
